Gum disease

Gum disease is the number one cause of tooth loss amongst adults. It is caused by an excessive build up plaque (a film of bacteria) which then hardens to form tartar. This leads to gingivitis where the gums surrounding the teeth become red and inflamed. Usually the gums will bleed when you brush your teeth.

Periodontal disease, which is more severe, occurs when the problems associated with gingivitis are allowed to develop. Several types of periodontal disease exist, all of which affect the tissues supporting your teeth. If left untreated, the affected teeth may eventually be lost.

Prevention of gum disease is through good oral hygiene, along with regular visits to the dentist. At Kilburn Dental Studio we pride ourselves on providing high quality dental care in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Take the first step and contact our friendly team to arrange a consultation. We can then discuss the most suitable course of treatment for you.
